Over the years, I met numerous books on statistics, especially for psychologists, which typically paid a lot of attention to such topics as choosing an appropriate sample or to experimental designs in general. Later on, I discovered a few statistical textbooks for archaeologists and quantitative historians. However, they looked quite oldfashioned. These were not so useful for my purposes. Finally I arrived at Gries' Statistics for Linguistics with R: A Practical Introduction, into which I decided delve in. The data and code examples for this book are available

A useful index of statistical methods.
